I think a satellite view is almost never the right thing for a game map. The cloth map is hand-drawn the in-game map is computer generated. Skyrim’s cloth map is like Google Maps “map view” and the in-game map is like “satellite view”. In Google Maps, the satellite view shows the physical features like trees and rocks the map view shows the abstractions like forests and borders. Map design is not only about what’s included but what is omitted.
The maps are pretty but they don’t have all the functionality I’d like to see. Game maps and Skyrim Game maps and Skyrim
